The Philippines has officially opened its doors to the global digital workforce through the launch of the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) Program, following the signing of Executive Order No. 86 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on April 24. The program allows foreign nationals employed by overseas companies to live and work remotely in the Philippines, combining professional flexibility with the country’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and growing digital infrastructure.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry R. Aguda praised the President’s move as a bold step toward building a future-ready, digital-first Bagong Pilipinas. He emphasized that this initiative not only welcomes international talent but also strengthens the foundation of the local digital economy. “President Marcos’ vision just supercharged the Philippines’ digital economy. We are creating the conditions for digital workers not just to visit, but to thrive,” Aguda said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has been authorized to issue the visas, while the DICT is spearheading efforts to enhance the country’s digital readiness. These include expanding high-speed internet connectivity in tourist destinations and emerging tech hubs, upskilling the Filipino workforce to engage with global talent, and promoting inclusive, tech-driven growth in the regions. The DICT is also committed to reinforcing cybersecurity and data privacy measures to ensure a secure and trustworthy environment for remote professionals and businesses alike.

The Digital Nomad Association of the Philippines welcomed the initiative, with its founder Orly T. Darnayla calling it a “big milestone” that brings the vision of positioning the Philippines as one of Asia’s top digital nomad and tech hubs closer to reality. More than just a tourism boost, the DNV Program is expected to serve as a catalyst for an innovation-driven economy by attracting individuals who bring expertise, fresh ideas, and global connections that enrich the local tech scene.

We believe this is a pivotal moment that will help the Philippines not only recover post-pandemic, but also thrive in the future of work.
